Insurance claim - or not
« on: 21 September 2012, 10:14 »
Alright folks. I was involved in a four car pile up on a dual carriageway yesterday, was the third car from front so received front and rear damage. Now I called the insurance company to claim but so far have heard nothing back. Just looking for advice about what to do.

I'm fairly sure if I carry on with the claim the car will be written off due to age and value. It needs new bumpers front and back, new grill and lights, new bonnet, and new slam panel the grill bolts on to. Am I best to let them write it off as a C or D then buy back and get it on the road, or just cancel my claim and repair it myself? It's only bolt on parts after all.

Why don't you move this to the insurance section. Lots of experts in there, they'll give you some sound advice.

why would you be claiming of your insurance unless you caused the accident?

Sorr perhaps bad phrasing there - I meant putting a claim in against the other car(s).

I thought you claimed off you own insurance regardless of what happened, then it was up to them to recover their costs from the blaments insurers.

Either way, this does make a strong case for the need to have an agreed value specialist policy for 20+ year old cars.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

The car at the back will be responsible for all damage to all of the cars... how will you get your money, if you don't claim?
Your car will be a write off, its the discretion of the insurance company whether they let you buy the salvage back!

Surely it's the fault of the car that run into the back of them. So car 1 claims from car 2, 2 from 3, 3 from 4.  They didn't keep a safe distance hence the accident.

Speak to a private company and go see a doctor.

If its a non fault  accident you can also get a free hire car. Try accident exchange they even sort out getting your car collected. I had a brand new audi for 6 weeks whilst my claim was processed.

Thats how it used to be, car at the back is now responsible for all... it takes a massive amount of confusion, and pointless paperwork out the equation... Of course there may be exceptions to this, but in general, this is how it works these days.
