Well you're looking at least £40-£60 an hour in a proper garage. Dealership would probably be nearer to £80 an hour I reckon!
VW/Audi is normally £82 per hour, on older cars or big jobs they will discount it or fix the labour cost.
wow not really worth fixin at a garage..i gave him 50 quid for his troubles...that's 10 more than he asked for and threw in a bottle of purple antifreeze as well...guess it was a good deal for both of us...he spent about 4 hours fixing the car...
4 hours is ok, water pump and rear engine mount can be grief if they have not been done before or for a long time.
Sounds like a bargain to me

well tried the car out and it no longer clunks when changing gears...the engine mounts are doing their job...

but the interesting thing is now when I am going about 80mph and stomp on the accelerator then the revs go up to over 5000 and then automatically drop...i have no idea why as it did not do this before....is there a rev limiter on these cars that kicks in at high speeds? it is impossible to pass anyone on the motorway...:( as everone is driving 80-90mph...

Well you should get it checked out soon as,its not ideal to drive it like that ,at least dont rev the nackers off it until its sorted.Think a faulty hall sensor in the dizzy  can give the same symptons also

Sounds like the timing belt is out by a tooth and has forced the ecu into safe mode which limits the the engine to 5000rpm.
