losing power
« on: 03 July 2005, 11:09 »
hmmm this is quite funny really but not if you get my drift.  I'm driving along and after 40 miles the car just decides it doesnt wanna go above 50 regardless of how hard you push it, like somethings restricting it, so im driving down the motorway thinking where the hell is the next services i really need to stop.  What a nightmare i thought i was low on oil and the engine was seizing.  Well after 20 miles of going slow on the m6 i get bored and start to play about with stuff,  i find that when you push the electric window switch the car picks up power again and as soon as you let it go it dies.  Lol funny as f**k like i got a turbo button or summat.  It has been alright since and only seems to happen on long journeys i.e. 50 miles
just thought id mention it tho and see if anyone had any ideas

That's an odd one. You got your dash wires plugged into your headlights?

does the engin rev freely when at a standstill? if it seems like its miss-firing it maybe something simple like a bad lead or plug or the mass airflow meter, or if its burning oil do a compression test to prove the rings, if the engine is ok check the clutch, if all that is ok you may have a high resistance earth prob or a major loom prob, hope this helps

thx i think it was just a dodgy lead because it hasnt done it for a while however it does seem to feel like its misfiring when its cold and it has trouble starting when cold in  winter although since its been warm weather its started first  pull. Thx for your reply its very informative.  Where is the airflow meter at?  A mate mentioned  this could b the problem as well

Mate, try disconnecting the warm up regulator connector, it cured my prob, and you had a similar one!
If it does then you know what's kanacered!
