  • Restoring a classic is an ongoing project!!!
Checked all of the above, seems when You turn key to position number 3 before it goes through to starting position on number 3 it starts the engine & the starter motor in continuously turning. We then detached the rear wiring loom from the fusebox, turned the key to position 3 and to start position 4 then is works fine. Starter motor cuts off normally so I can only presume there is a fault with the rear wirin loom which we have checked. Could it be because of the fuel lifter or fuel pump itself?? Any ideas as I may end up breaking this golf for spares as it's one problem after another?!

Fully seem welded up with new panels and a hell of a lot of work which we go to waste but I'm past caring, it may have to go.

It would be a hell of a shame if it got broken. My understaning of the ignition is that positon 0 is off poistion 1 is ectrics on and then you move to 3 which is spring loaded this activates the soleniod but as soon as you release the key it drops back to position 2 so the solenoid disengages. Id be checking the wiring around the ignition.
