I wouldn't take it there tbh, 9 out of 10 people won't know what the f**k they're talking about when the tester tells them they're flux capacitor has failed a resistance check on the forward bulkhead! They'll just say, "ok, change it". Thats the difference, and thats where these guys make up their overheads. That coupled with some of the parts they'd use for servicing which are imo, substandard.

If you go to "a backstreet garage", its much easier to build a rapport with the tester. I've taken all my cars to the same guy for years. MOT is £40, but he knows I'd change everything myself, so advises what will need doing soon, or the before the next MOT to save all that. He gives me leeway too when there are things that are "borderline", and suggests I get them done pretty sharpish. Never had a failure yet either.
