3 of my mates who are VW mechanics say the best engine they would choose from is the 8v's because they are solid and easy to work on. i could agree too!

aye the rest have more BHP but sometimes its more than just figures. i will admit though that the 1.8t is the most tunable and best sounding of the lot.
put that engine in the mk2/3 and its a massive winner!

Just because some spanner monkey says it's easy to work on, doesn't make it better. All are solid, so some may be a challenge to the brain for some to work on, but that's progress.

true but for sheer reliability they say its the best engine.
they used to run and own one of the fastest street legal drag cars in the 90's using nothing but 8V engines and a beatle on its original engine with thier own garage who specialise in 8V engines and building campers & beatles so i always go on what they say.

again though if i had the choice it would be the 1.8t engine to tune and not the 8V. pretty cheap and easy to find engines.

Don't think the 8v is any more reliable than the 16v...most of the problems with the mk3 don't boil down to engine problems....coil, distrib, ) leads, sensors etc are common to fail on both..

I have had more miles out of 8v engines over 16v engines, they do have a better life span as they rev lower and have less moving parts etc etc.
A 16v engine will go 150k + before a rebuild so its not sh!t by any standards, but Ive had 8v engines on 200k on the same head gasket and seals.....

Most tunable.....yes......best sounding......no
A VR6 sounds better, and you dont need to put a big exhaust or a dump valve on it.
Didn't know there was a mk3 syncro. Learn summin' new every day.

This thread is captivating but entirely exhausting.

Doesn't life have substantial depth, enough to warrant not going around pointing out everyone else's shortcomings and or supposed 'wrong' decisions?

All it ever does, is serve to make the aggressors look stupid and/or neanderthal and the victims become uneasy. I say lay off the verbal aggro and take you bad energy out on a punch bag (not the missus )

Oh it's not that bad..........  You need to look at some older threads.  Especially in Dub rides.

Oh and your car is not as fast as mine... disagree with me and we have a problem, I only have a missus, no punch bag here. Just kicked the dogs and punched a wall.

A double handed power wank is equally good at excreting (lol) bad energy, if you wanna save your knuckles.

Ps. Your car is a heap.

Please don't say you missed the irony in my comments. It was meant as a back handed compliment in reference to your earlier comments regarding the speeds of both our cars. No offense meant mush
