This has changed the camber and affected the handling.
No, installing your new dampers will have thrown the camber and tracking out, as outlined by Thom.
I am told that I need to adjust the camber on the wheels but as I understand this cant be done without some camber bolts that replace the standard ones.
Sounds like you've taken your car to someone incompetent to get the alignment set up. All the adjustment you should need is in the bolts and the struts you have on the car.

Take it to somewhere with a 'Hunter' set up or similar and get them to set it up. If you take it to most ATS/National Tyres/Supermarket/Fastfit places they'll only do the basic alignment, to make sure the wheels are pointing forward correctly. A Hunter machine with a good operative will set the car up properly. Try finding your nearest Protyre franchise.
