No spark at all
« on: 05 July 2012, 11:07 »
Hi guys, I'm in need.

My digifant 1.8 8v GTI won't start. When I bought it it didn't start, but got it firing with the aid of the AA. It wouldn't hold a charge but the Alternator is fine according to the AA dude.

The car turns over but doesn't fire. I have no spark at all.

I have replaced the Coil, HT Leads, Distributor Cap, Rotor Arm, and still I have nothing. Is it likely its the digifant ECU? I have a voltage of 8.5v on the plug above the digifant ECU, but nothing at the coil. Its really pissing me off lol.

Thanks

Has the dizzy been taken out and put back in a different position?

the Old parts were utterly shagged mate, no chance they're going back on. It started once the new dizzy cap and rotor arm were fitted, since then has had a new battery and coil, leads and plugs.

Do you get a spark from the king lead?
The one in the middle of the dizzy cap.
Plus are you taking one spark plug out at a time and seeing an arc on the head?

Do I take the king lead from the dizzy end to find out if it get a spark?
Have taken lead 1, furthest from gearbox and have no spark whatsoever. Not tried the others..

Dizzy to coil so take off the coil end for testing.
Take one lead off grip using insulated grips then go close to the head so if it arcs blue spark.
Check coil for voltages as well!

ok so i take the end off the coil and hold that to a set of insulated pliers and see if there is a spark? sounds f**king dangerous to me but ill give it a go! haha
