Fitting a fanbelt and PAS Belt
« on: 15 June 2005, 18:37 »
Ok having a few problems here.. and i thought this would be easy.

I can move the alternator enought as my Air con pump is in the way and i am unable to remove the old belt. any ideas?

The PAS belt is also a sod to get off as the arm which the pump sits on just wont budge. any ideas?

Cheers Guys

Hi mate, no idea about the aircon, but the pas there is a hidden bolt, as you look on it from the front it on the right hand side, and id in the recess! you will need an extension to get it, shouldmove freely then!

good luck

yep :) it took me two days to figure it out! it's not in the haynes :(

It's when you stick your arm in to theright of the pump, it's up a bit and you can feel a hole, it's down there :)

If it is a mk2 with aircon then you will probably have to remove the alternator completely.

golfvr6-is-back - Yeah looking at it tonight i recon the altornator has gotta come right off.. what a pain in the butt. the bl00dy air con doesnt even work anyways its been fully disconnected..

deefadog - What another pain.. I cant believe they put this bolt on too.. Its got like 4/5 bolts holding it on.. really thats a bit of an over kill. Well all i can say if others are reading this, The two pipes for the PAS which come from the left and go into the pump on the right hand side of the pump this nut is situated just underneath these pipes.. Its a 13mm nut and u will need bout a 3 inch extention to get to it.. Lovely... thanks for the help.. Oh just quick how did u get get the belt tight, gave up tonight it was getting dark...

Cheers GUYS

As i remember it was a bit tight putting it on, then just tighnen the adjuster screw, re check it after about 2 weeks, as it will stretch a little!
