Bodywork wise you could make that car look tidy with a bit of elbow grease and £300, sort trim & badges, rear wiper, removed stickers, T-cut & polish, back to black bumpers, stick some self restored retro wheels on there.

Unless he wants to start spending alot of money I wouldn't take the arches off, all arch lips will be a bit rusty & may be rotted through in places.

Yep, arches are always a job you regret starting.. I've only ever had one mk2 with perfect arches underneath!

The mk2 looks great! As said, a good clean and a few bits here and there and it'll look fantastic.
