i am trying to upgrade my brakes on my 1.6 driver.
anyone got any tips or recomendations?

239mm gti vented discs and pads are a straight cheap swap. the discs are wider but the pads are slimmer so you can keep your original calpiers.

if i was to go with bigger discs would it be a lot harder to do? and what would i need?

not 100% sure but i think you'd need new hubs and calipers. If your sticking with a tuned 1.6 carb i reckon gti discs and uprated pads (mintex1144, greenstuff ect) would be more than sufficent.

yeah if you wanted to go bigger you'd need at least late 16 valve hubs/carriers to take you up to 256mm or g60 ones are 280 mm and can be done with the 16 valve carriers somehow but i'd say you wouldn't need them to be honest.
