Wot the hel is a maf??? I'm having a blond moment

Air mass meter, between tip and air box, registers how much air the engine sucks in!!!

2000 GTI 1.8t ARZ, S2000 filter, DSG intake, Forge 007 dv, Catch can, R-tech custom remap, 3" Supersize Silicone TIP, Powerflex dog bone, 'The Beast' FMIC, Ultimate delete, LCR fuel pump, 3" Turbo back, K03 hybrid, Ported Manifold, S3 injectors, 80mm maf = 280bhp 270lbft

Well you see... Your MUM!

On a serious not, as the turbo get bigger the air that is sucked in increases more and more. Until it reaches a point where the current MAF cannot read the rate of air flow.

Now again, off topic and explain a MAF. All it is, is a heating element where air flows past it, all it does is works out how much the temperature drop is occurring in the current diameter that it sits in and takes into account IAT (intake air temp) & density, does some maths and thats how it works out the air flow. Also when you take the MAF you notice a pug with mesh on it, the mesh is there to smooth (make linear) the airflow to improve reading accuracy.

Back on topic, eventually the MAF reaches its limit due to the way it works as the element can only go so far, so you increase the internal diameter and adjust the ECU to take into account the new area which will effect how it will read the airflow, in short your increasing its maximum airflow range.

Hope this helps

Just seen this. The benefit of fitting an s3 inlet is that if you get all the charge pipes with twin coolers its all a perfect fit and bolt straight on and you don't have to play about with custom pipes and buy a new front mount like me an Toby did but the cooler we got is a beast
Will always love my mk4 but she had to go...225 Quattro TT in its place....but its still black (she lives on in spirit!)

Don't forget kids he has an AGU so the inlet mani won't match up as it has wider ports, on a AUM it'd work, otherwise its a case of custom mani if he goes for bigger power.

I'll find the part no for u,
eBay vr6 maff that looks like urs
B5 is by far he best as it stays pretty much 3" ll the way down to the turbo
U don't need a 4 bar but I used a Walbro in tank pump or a s3/ Cupar r pumps work, eBay for them too or the breaking classifieds

A real 304bhp 286lbft in a mk4 golf!
