Twitter is superb for news. I can find out stuff quicker than most news sites, in fact a lot of news sites get their reports via twitter feeds of people writing about it before they can arrive.

It's a micro blog as opposed to a social media platform, I like it, had it ages but only just started using it regularly.

If you follow brands you can often get deals and exclusive offers, and if you have problems with something you can tweet about it.
Many companies employ people to search the net for what's being said (positively or negatively) about their company, they can then rectify issues and praise advocates.
