Prob will not be cheaper though.
The polo is expensive anyway and going by golf r prices a polo r would be more expensive and less well equipped than the Audi version lol...

The 210BHP 1.6 Polo R is a definite go  go  and will come out when the Polo receives it face lift for next summer. Source car magazine,

That would be on the new MQB platform then. Autocar did a feature on it a little while back and said equivalent current platforms are 40-80kg heavier than on the MQB platform. Although I'd have an educated guess that a 4WD Polo with DSG will still weigh in at around 1300-1350kg

That may cause problems shifting the A1 Quattro if you could buy the polo equivalent cheaper. I think they wouldn't want to step on the Quattro toes really.

No it won't. No one who buys these types of cars looks at what they could get that's similar for less money. Being brutally honest cars like the Renault Clio 197 and even the Corsa VXR (Nurburgring Edition excluded) offer far more bang (quite literally in the VXR's case) than cars like the forthcoming Polo R/ Audi S1. Even the Fabia VRS or Ibiza Cupra would be better IMO, but they won't detract from sales of the more expensive super-mini hot hatches.

quoted from that website in the link above

''We thought we’d heard the end of the story, but the Polo R rumour book has opened again, although once more, it’s not good news. Recent reports state that the road-going Polo R was to be based on the limited edition, 252bhp left-hand drive-only Audi A1 quattro. That car costs £41,020, which would certainly price a similarly-expensive Polo out of the market. Volkswagen has reportedly realised this, admitting that the number of potential buyers for the car would be very limited. The Polo GTI only makes up 1 per cent of Polo sales in the UK.''

So like i said its going to be a similar car to the A1 quattro and pull a price of roughly the same kind of money. There isn't a market for both cars form the same company.

the quattro sold out cos of its name/heritage despite the stupid price tag.

people won't pay a similar price for a polo and like i said they won't want to step on the quattro's toes or else its instantly less exclusive/desirable/valuable as it was without a polo R.
