« on: 03 June 2005, 19:20 »
I have a oak green 16 valve golf with 15'' BBS wheels. I want new tryes but am not sure what is the best size to get, also what make of trye would suit the car.

185\55x15 were the factory fit tyres, most folk use 195\50x15, probably cos they are wider and cheaper. You will surely get some more informative replies than mine. I was just stating some basic informaton.

I have RM BBS wheels and ive got 195/50r15v tyres fitted.
As for make i went for Firestone TZ200 as the price was good around 25+ VAT each and the bonus being they have a very good kurb saver to protect the alloys. Overall wear has been okay too on the whole.

Do you feel much difference when you are driving between the 195/50/15 and the185/55/15 and what looks the best.

I run a 92 run out and have just changed from 185 -195/50/15s, as its PAS this has reduced the ultra light feel of the steering to a far more acceptable level giving the car better feedback. In general its your choice but i opted for Michelin Pilots as have found these are well suited to my use and the characteristics / geometry of the Mk2.....
Stuck in the 80s? Nope its a 92!

I had 185/55/15s on my cabby and recently changed to 195/50/15s and I noticed a big difference with the slightly wider tyre, going over speed bumps is not as bad now and overall the ride is a lot more comfier.

195/50 15 were apparently the intended tyre, and make no difference to your speedo if you are changing up from 14".  I've gone for the Eagle F1s- great in wet or dry, and the rim protector has already proved it's worth.  £125 for the set from Mytyres.co.uk. Very happy with the choice!
