bloody 700 quid, wish I hadn't bothered now.

changed the oil and filter tonight, someones just pointed out that some non gen crank sensors dont work too well, so i'm prob going to have to change that too..

It will run sweet as anything when i finally get it working as everythings been done !

I work for BMW our older petrol engines have similar problem being crank shaft sensor. Ok till warms up when hot cuts out and doesn't start. They split and open up at operating temp ok when cools down a bit. Doesn't log any faults either, my old mk3 gti also had fault when driving car felt like cut out for split second when driving. When sold lad said would start that also turned out be crank sensor.

they'll run without the hall sensor.

on mk3's i view cranck sensors as a SERVICE item   on any of my customers cars if it has a cam belt it gets a cranck sensor ( unless its just had one)
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

think this is a must have on mine then, they've replaced the crank sensor as the old one was touching metal, but might have used a non-gen or cheapo one..

sorry that the thread has turned into a workshop one.. but I really appreciate the help with this guys :)
