Bad residuals?

Your cars getting on for 2 years old, you should get a bit more than you've been offered but it shouldn't come as a surprise as options count for little come px time and thats the way it works im afraid, you should know this when buying a car, but it is still hard to take i know. I often read about options not making a difference in the price, it think that's a crock.  The reason is, why do the dealers ask for the spec? They sell the used cars for more based on the spec for sure.

When i come to trade mine and a salesman tells me that the wont pay extra for the extra's i'll tear them out of the car before I hand of the keys...

Quite right, dealerships tell you that, but they will soon whack on £2k on top due to its high spec when selling it on themselves. That's part of the way "they" make the money. Private sale is your best bet. If someone likes your car, they will buy it.But resale or trade is nothing like it used to be.

When i was looking to trade in my 59 plate GTI the first dealer i went to offered me £15,600. The second one offered me £17,500 which i accepted and did a deal on a new R.

I had a look online to see what the had it up for sale at. £21,500!. I only bought it for £21,800 NEW over two years ago! It also looks like they'd sold it as a week later it was removed from the website and i havn't seen it at the dealer's since.

Yes most people know dealers make more £ on cars with more options, its just your tuff luck if you don't know that and thats the way it goes unless you sell private  but even a lot of the time then options just make it sell easier. It sounds harsh, i don't like it but everyone should be aware of this when you buy a new car.

they take the piss. they had a brand new really good spec 3 door white gti for 24k reduced from over 27k so how can they justify them prices.

Was interested in chopping the GTI in for a 60 plate S3 to be gob smacked at the trade in value I was offered...

£16,050!!! July 2010 registered DPB 3dr GTI. 17k, DSG, leather, LED rears, RNS510, sun roof, bluetooth, auto lights/wipers, 18" shadows.

Looking at the current values of the car, that's not far off the mark! Was really quite surprised considering I paid 6 grand more than that back in July last year!

Anyone else surprised at the lack of residuals for this car? Looks like I'm best holding on for another year or two ...

Audi don't sell anything but audi on the forecourt this means you will get less for your car.
Have you driven A3 yet ? While I have not driven an S3 I had a sport model for 3 years. It was no where as good as a golf. Also Audi customer service is the worst I have ever experienced in 30 years of buying cars.

I had a quick scan on Parkers the other day and my early 09 with 30k on the clock (mine's got 27k) had a part ex value of just short of £14k. That doesn't include the fact mine has Bluetooth, 18 inch Monzas and an RNS 510 so they might bump it up a few hundred quid.
So I'll have lost £10k or so in three years. Yes that's a lot but you know that when you buy new. It's what I get after another three or four years I'm much more interested in and I know that'll be a decent amount for a 7 year old car. As I've said before, as a private buyer, that's what got me to buy the GTi over a VXR last time and is quite possibly what will do the same next time round even though I love the look of that new VXR.

Andy, I agree. I tend to keep my cars 4 - 5 years, and I've always fared better when the time comes to sell with a Golf than with other manufacturers offerings.

When I bought my first VW, I had a 3 year old Vauxhall. Although I'd bought it at a good price as a nearly new car, the depreciation was shocking!
