rear knocking after shocks change...

When the garage changed my rear springs he did not tighten the top nut properly and I had the same noise you are getting. I went back and played my mouth a bit but was easily sorted.

I suspect this guy has it right - its a BMW forum link but he recons the top shock mount was the problem for the OP.  Mine is similarly buggered, so will check bolts tonight just in case and then plan to change the shock mount rubber.  Interesting video in the post though.

okay - so new front shocks installed at the weekend, and new shock rubber installed in the rear shocks.

It knocks like a bugger now from the o/s/r - sure I've put it together correctly and that its tight.  Mainly when accelerating.

Wife sat in the back at the weekend and said the top mount wasn't moving at all.  She seemed to think the knocking was further forward, i.e. beam bushes, but not 100% sure about that.  Sounds to me like the shock.

Any ideas...........?

mmmm - don't think so - both felt much the same to me (i.e. effort to pull the piston up).

i had similar a while back got some shocks of someone and said they was ready to go on the car ,only to find that the metal circlip missing on the shaft of the shock,maybe worth a look,brett

I think i've found the issue.  The o/s/r wheel rocks top to bottom when pulled,  n/s/r not so much.  Thats bearings isn't it?

Couldn't find a fault, or get the rear stuts to move....
