I had an aldi £20 2 ton jack fail on me, the valve gave. But I had stands underneath so it was fine.

2T will be enough, mk4 weighs in a region of 1350kg to 1450kg I believe.

I should also mention I was working on another golf when it failed and not my own golf, I don't think it failed as a result of the weight but the valve gave way for whatever reason.
I had my mk4 on the weighing bridge and it registers 1120kg  :cool:

so seems like valves are the thing to go.. any way keep them maintained as i would like to keep the trolley jack for a good few years will come in very handy  :smiley:

To be honest, while its something that has always been of a concern to me this was the first time it's happened. I just saw the price and thought it would be handy as a cheap jack as I always use axle stands anyway. I would therefore urge you to do the same as I'm not sure whether this was a single defective unit or a systemic failure on the whole batch.
