Saw one the first day of the new plate in red, it looked nice until the guy who was driving parked up and then got out; he was about 65 with dyed black hair and a pony tail!! WTF.  Looked a total minger.

Please pity me then who's married to a woman who insists on buying a convertible. She had an Astra convertible which was a perfectly decent car (albeit with a pretty grim interior) then a Saab 93 which, to be fair is a beautiful looking thing, cruises brilliantly and I don't look too much of a c**k in it. Obviously handles like a pudding but I can accept that since I have the GTis for proper driving in.
However, the time is approaching to change the 93 and she has clocked onto this Golf convertible, ignoring my horror by saying it's her car and I got what I want (can't really argue with that). We have a double problem in that I do a 60 mile commute so I need to buy something economical which means (if we bought one of these) (a) the 1.6 diesel and (b) I'l look a c**k every day going to work. I really don't like the Golf convertible as I still think it looks like a pram on wheels but I' struggling to convince her of anything else at the moment.
The new Astra convertible looks quite nice in the spy shots I've seen so far or my only other hope as to persuade her into a diesel Scirrocco. However, I'll hate that too cos a coupe shouldn't have a diseasel in it. Nor should a convertible to be honest but needs/costs must.

Think I might just divorce her and marry a woman who's happy to trundle round in any old piece of s*** - it'd be much easier.

It's not a convertible though is it? And that's the problem - she has to be able to put the roof down.

The shame of being seen in a hairdresser's car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They tested this on gear against another hard top convertable (can't remember what is was) and found it was stiffer and had better handling despite the tag top. They rated it pretty high overall. I reckon it'll be good (if you're in to drop tops).

P.S Mk1 Golf convertable the most iconic drop top ever?

Agreed. The bottom line is she's a pain in the arse!!!!

I'm going to tell her if she buys one of them we'll never be able to afford another GTi (or similar) so should therefore downsize her car to something economical and concentrate on putting money into the main car.  But trying to be logical with a woman is always a thankless task as you will all (the blokes amongst you anyway) already know.
