Has the mk6 got a timing belt or a chain and when do they get changed

So i guess the R has Belt as well then?

Yes the GTI has a chain.

It's normally designed to last the life of the engine. Sometimes they can get rattles at over 100,000 miles I cannot remember what vw quote in the engine document off the top of my head but its prob in the.maintenance section as.a.pdf

vw say they will last the life of the engine chains. but since ive worked for vw in 2 years weve changed a fair few now to be fair

What other engines do vw do that have a full chain that you have changed due to ware? Or are you talking about the 888 engine waring chains out very quickly?

i'd be shocked if the mk6 chains were failing already.. most repairs i hear of are R32 or older VR6
