mk3 gti 8 valve engine and gear box
« on: 07 February 2012, 18:41 »
hi all, i recently bought my self a mk3 8v gti, 130.000 on the clock and not a mark on the inside or out! underneath is perfect too, so onto the engine, as we all know they are crap on fuel and are slow, not a cool combination! i have heard from putting the mk2 gti 8v head on makes a big difference, any info that could help me on my way would be awesome!!!!!!! my gear box is nearly dead so am interested in the derv box conversion any one out there achieved that yet and any problems to overcome? does it affect the speedo if so how to overcome that problem, im going to go the whole way with squeezing as much out of the engine, race/road cams, fuel pressure regulator, a proper forced induction kit not a cheap and nasty one, i already have a full stainless with sports cat and silencers, will get a lightened flywheel too when changing gear box and will get a short shift kit whilst doing the swap. any ideas on what im doing over the next couple of months then please help, or if you just want to call me a twit thats cool too lol

It's just that we have had a couple of threads about tuning the 2.0 8v gti and it's getting boring. Just look down this page and the next one. Have a read.

Easy way to make a 8v quicker is to sell then buy something quicker.

You could throw thousands out it and still be slower then a 16v or VR

i understand what everyone is saying, i sold my audi a4 avant 1.8t quattro, becuase it was slow and boring! its too easy to just shove a 1.8t engine in, i grew up in the days of twin webbers, manual chokes and fine tuning, my first car was a nova sr, not saxo or 106!!!!! and there is nothing worse than having a high is powered a3 engine with front wheel drive, too much on the front wheels, i just enjoy doing things myself.....i qualified as a mechanic not fitter, was just hoping for heads up on this project!
