GTI vs..

350Z

Had a play with a Nissan 350Z on Saturday. Was approaching a roundabout before a long dual carriageway and as I came to a stop to give way, a shiny black 350Z rolled past slowly eyeing up my GTI, this was quickly followed up by a 'come on' wave from the passenger. Of course I couldn't refuse and floored it right behind him. The result was a surprise to me, I kept right on his bumper up to about 100 (give or take 30  ) before we had to brake for traffic. I could see him looking in his rear view mirror thinking, "why am I not pulling away?"

love my car even more now!

The 3.5 only had 270bhp so there wouldn't be much in it. If your ED30 was remapped you would have really embarrassed him.

I'm seriously considering a remap even after only owning the car for a little over a month. I'm just worried about the extra insurance premium...

I think I need to experience the extra grunt from a stage one GTI/ED30. Anybody know of anyone that could help me out?

Have you phoned your insurance provider to ask how much extra they want for a remap? You may well find yourself surprised at how little some charge. On the other hand, depending on who your insurance is with you'll find some don't cover remaped cars.

Im not saying Revos are the best remap but they do offer a "trial" version of their remap which might be useful to yourself if you want to feel whats its like with a remap.

I'm with Admiral and to be fair haven't enquired as of yet. I would choose either REVO or APR depending upon where the closest garage was that fitted the software.

I will have a look into the trail software.

Thanks for the help.

Admiral do accept remaps, I used to be with them. Give them a call and see what they say, shouldnt be too much more to be honest (this all of course depends on your age, location etc etc)

Note that if you get a trial version it locks your ODB port

If you have had a "free" taster trial remap from APR or REVO then unfortunately your OBD socket is LOCKED. We will need to access the BDM socket inside the ECU. We will need to remove the ECU to repair the code and program the ECU directly. The extra work involved in removal and repair costs an additional £50.

All it does is lock it to either REVO or APR so you can only get their remap if you have had a trial with them. Bit cheeky if you ask me.

276bhp to 310bhp depending on year.

And surprisingly in gear times me there is not toomuch in it. Mine ain't mapped and I've not be lost on the one encounter I've had with them either. Mines a Gti and not mapped but there again rolling speeds helped plus slack driving on the others side.

If you do Revo APR ask them to remove the map if you don't go with them as I'm sure I remember R-Tech saying something about the others locking the chip.
