Spend the extra dough, and get an older air cooled 911, The 996 doesn't have that classic nostalgia thing that the 911 will smitten you with! liken it to going out to buy an E Type Jag, and coming back with an XJS...

Heat exchangers need replacing how often, Thom?

I'd rather have the advantages of watercooled, although the 993 is a bit gorgeous.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

People dont keep 996's for long, because they're a passing whim, I know plenty of people that have owned their 911's for well over 20 years and wouldn't dream of parting with them. Generally speaking, issues that crop up on 911's are easy to solve, and could be fixed by someone like Nick,  unlike the 996 that will have you hemorrhaging money to get it fixed, knowing that when its done, it will have to go up for sale...

Not cool and clearly entirely the wrong car.

993's are the last of the cool 911's imo, but 996's are still porsche's at the end of the day!

The last of the small 911s...and undoubtedly the prettiest.
But they rot, leak oil and aren't the answer to everyones prayers.
I have enough mates with them...

996 you CAN use as a daily...it is modern enough to be used daily, comfy enough, but still retains enough 911-ness to make it a challenge.

I like NSXs a lot but they're massive and insurance is a lot more than a 996.

I have also been having dirty thoughts about 996s recently.

I think it's a mid-30s thing.

You've just caught it early.

The PITA for us is that we have two young girls in the family.

This wouldn't be too much of an issue if they were the correct size for their age, but our 5 year old is already in age 8-9 clothes.  Won't fit in those rear hammocks for very long!

Surely that's what the wife's car for?
