Get the strongest double sided tape you can get, something that is a little playable so it moulds to the dimples on the foot rest or as the wife calls it, the fart pedal. I used 3M tape and its done the trick, obviously make sure both surfaces are clean, a bit of autosol metal polish does the job. Once taped and in place I found the next way to get even pressure on it was to use my foot, simple but it worked cos you can get plenty of purchase from pushing against the seat.

Hope this helps?

P.s. I've just bought some no nails double sided tape in the house and that looks like decent stuff too?

I bolted my footrest on with the recessed Allen bolts that came with it and it looks good, used tape for my seat inserts though.
