Just had the Vreds fitted, too early to tell what their like but I have to say, the steering is much sharper. I drove a few gti's before I settled on this one and always thought they felt a little better in the steering dept than mine, until now.. Can tyres make that much difference?

i think I need the tracking looking it too so well get that done soon too.

Yes tyres can. They are only thing that's in contact with the road

Hi Chaps

I havnt been on here for ages but unforunately it is time to spend some money on my MK5

So a couple of weeks ago it went in for its 70k service and i decided to get the major service done as it hadnt seen the garage for 2 years .

On the report it came back that the rear tyres need changing. Looking at the tyres they have worn mostly on the inside. Is this normal?

Also I seem to have quite a bit of road noise from them at about 30-40mph.

On the front I have Goodyear Eagle F1 Assms and they seem to be ok.

My question is whether to stick with these or go to Michellins

Your advice is more than welcome.

Stick with F1s as they are good but beware they are noisy. The other thing is the camber may be out on the rear by the sounds of that. Or you drive damn quick over those sh1tty small speed bumps.

Tyres are all in the mind.  Just think you have the best, learn to use the thottle correctly for the chosen tyres, and bob's your uncle, top tyre tastic.

Jeez what garbage. I have a Mkv Gti and when I bought it, it had Falken F452's. They're supposedly a good midrange tyre and yet by comparison to my Avon ZZ3's, they're utter garbage and only £15 cheaper per corner. They turned to plastic under 10c, suffered from a horrible rumble at motorway speed and offered limited to no feedback in the wet.

Don't listen to egg wash, your tyres are your only point of contact with the road. Invest wisely, it's worth it.
