I'VE replaced coolant temp sensor and thermostat and still getting no more than 28mpg.
I did just over 80mile last night and averaged 31.7mpg.

This thirsty 8v thing seems quite common now..

I think a big factor is how well the engine has been looked after, mine had a very extensive service history and was a very healthy engine.....it made 124bhp on Carbon's rollers with only a cat-back and panel filter.

Journey type, length and the time of year are big factors.

Shorter journeys at the moment will use a lot more fuel, as the warm up stage will be longer to compensate for the lower temperatures.

I used to do the best part of 100 miles a day (50 miles to work). The MFA would say 42mpg, which worked out to be about 38 mpg, which was pretty good for a constant 70 with occasional bursts of over-taking.

I now do about 250 miles a week. Most of my journeys are to work (6 miles round trip) and then to Uni 3 days a week (60 mile round trip)

The MFA now says about 34 MPG, which is a bout 30 mpg in real terms.

I'm sure if I went back to longer journeys the mpg would go back up.

When I bought mine a few months back it was obvious mine isn't a well looked after motor. Since I bought it I've replaced the common parts, I.e plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm,oil and filter. Then thermostat and temp sensor. Next is MAF and lambda.

Sorry for hijacking your thread dude

Mine can get 38-40mpg on motorway even on a 40 mile round trip if driven around 3000 revs.  Even around town I can get very high 20's.

Obiously it depends on how you drive, but mine was also fully serviced only 3 or 4 months ago.  All new filters and fluids etc has gotta hrlp MPG.....

My 1.6 used to get 40MPG.

It's pretty shocking ATM though. Sitting at 80-100 is easy but does drink. The 8V used to average 42 worked out on paper at 80 MPH.

Where all my moneys went.

Yeah mines no better than 26.

I can get 40 on a long trip, but over 2000 miles it's telling me I got a average of 26.

I do 50 miles a day on mixed roads and get an average of 34-37mpg everyday when I pull onto the work drive.

The car has been fully serviced all its life and I think it does help as my mates 8v has never been looked at apart from oil top ups and he barely gets 30mpg with the same type of journey.

My 34-37mpg journey does include a 90+ leptons a day blast up the A421 for 10 miles too.
