try searching google, im sure the compressor wheel in the k04-001 is slightly smaller than the k03s   not 100% sure though
it does have  a larger turbine wheel though..
the reason the oil/coolant/downpipe ect are the same it because it shares the same turbine housing cast as the k03 and the chra housing is the same for the k03 and k04. it starts do differ when you alter the exhaust housing for one like the k04-023 which is for longitudianal cars like the passat.. to fit one to the golf the S3/TT 225 exhaust manifold, oil/coolant lines and downpipe would be needed.
im not sure exactly what tip size is needed for the k04-001.. i would have thought you could get an aftermarket k03s tip to fit to be honest.

comp wheel same height size and back plate is same as k03 sosmaller than k03s, but the 001 wheel wont fit the k03 comp housing the TIP size works out to be the same as a k03s..lol

The K04-001 is the most confusing turbo for the 1.8T, no one knows why it was built and what for? and its hard to get exact specs unless you take one apart like I did,, but what I can say its the most fun turbo out there for the 1.8Ts. 300lbft at close on to3000rpm..

Cheers Nick :afro:

Just need a discount code for backdraft now LOL

What sort of bhp / ft lb am I talking of with current mods Nick? Obv turbo needs sorting cos of the wastegate is still sticking every now and then . Cheers Nick

I will find out for you on price, (might be worth hanging on until so of the k03-023 hybrids are up and running, I have a customers AUM booked on the 7th Jan to see what the 03-023 hybrid will push from a map.

I have my k04-001 (just turbo) run 13.9s at santa pod which is quicker than all the strong stage2 LCRs and S3 K04 engines.  I started of tuning the 001 to 262bhp 290lbft, then went mad for a while and made 270bhp 334lbft with big boost, then wanted more flow so bolted the k04-023 cold side to it and made 299bhp.

Now got a 450bhp stage-3 .63 T304e going on the beast with multi port 100hp nos and WMI...

I would go for uprated rods if you want big torque numbers. I snapped my number 1 rod with the 001 at 290lbft, but was it the oil pump chain fail,  fatigue from a rod with 156k or peak cylinder pressure from 290lbft?  Best to be safe the sorry, but saying that you can get an AUM/AUQ engine with less the 70k for £300-350.
