a sorted mk1 gti

lol i would be going backwards even with my vr6 getting a mk1 gti

How dare you!
no you wouldnt, you sit at the lights next to 4rsehole in his bimmer and totally leave said muppet for dead, you would never gete fed up of that, theres a psi tuning mk1 on the mk1oc atm for 5500

Had a look at that, very nice, love it's sleeper look and with that motor I'd say it's very fairly priced.

The only negative for me is that if I had a Mk5 GTI sitting in the drive, I'd rather sort it and take it on track than take the Mk3. In fact the same could be said really for any of the cars you have mentioned, with the exception being the Megane 225 as I really don't like them.

Out of all the cars listed the Megane has the best 'track' reputation, but it's the one you wouldn't take on track?

that's vag blinkers for you

Not at all. I don't question that the Megane is the more capable car on track of the bunch but it's just not a car I like. The new Megane RS250 is really nice and I'd have probably recommended that had it been one of the options, but the older Megane 225 just doesn't do it for me.

If I could throw a wildcard in, what about a VXR of some description - either Astra or Corsa?

Plus, DH, the idea of taking the 'hot hatch' on track was something I suggested to the OP. If you look back, the OP was only looking for recommendations as to which car would be the best daily, and in that respect I definitely feel either of the VAG offerings would be best. The ST is good but perhaps a bit thirsty for a daily?

I really don't find VXR's that bad - I'd say a fair bit of their reputation comes from exaggerated opinion. Yes, ok, they do understeer a bit, but it's not as bad as people often make out.

I suppose not

below is my take on things..

2007 megane 225 cup - fast, but if you want a nice long list of the amout of crap that goes wrong with renaults as some who has owned one. i.e. me

2005 golf gti - get a good spec and there isnt any of this list that competes for comfort and speed esp a quick remap.

2006 focus st - bit of a poor image but drive pretty well. very thirsty (r32 territory) horrible driving position.

2006 seat leon cupra fr - arguably the best looking of the bunch and most value for you moeny but i was put off by cheap cabin.

Have you considered???

Not that I'm biased having a 6 as a daily but these things are quick, even the Sport is a good laugh as a daily.

Mazda 3 MPS is a Focus in another suit.

(take that back actually, it's not).
