Sold a car, turns out it had been clocked

since 2005 all mot info including mileage is held on line need the reg number and either the doc reference number from the v5 or the current mot test number and then it the mileage can be confirmed back to 2005. Its a great tool for selling cars with no history that along with a hpi report covers you against selling a clocked car if you dont have the fulkl history as you have done all in your power to check. I would just refund him as if the buyer believes he has bought it from a trader ie some one who has made a profit from the sale and reports you to trading standards could get messy

Yeah I mean this was just a private sale though, IIRC can do 7 a year?

I do trade as well but this one was just a private.

Cheers for the advice, may just cut my losses, refund him ,try find the correct mileage and sell with "replacement clocks" or somehting.

Edit: Apparently it's done 100k or something. Just text him for the numbers I need to check online.

Nah, I bought the car with a blown headgasket, stuck on a gasket and car was sweet as.

I will do but obviously if it is clocked I will be offering first a partial refund. I will be checking online history myself though.

Yeah can do when I get an MOT certificate AFAIK, I don't actually do MOT's but the station we use will be able to tell me.

Selling as an innocent private seller you not obliged to do anything unless you said it was genuine miles.

Selling as a car trader he's entitled to the difference in "book price" between the two mileages.
