OEM Xenons
« on: 12 December 2011, 12:38 »
With the original bi-xenon headlights, am I right in thinking that the only DRL option was dip beam, tail and number plate lights? Also, where are the parking lights.

With the new fairy lights, the DRL's are obvious and thankfully don't have the tail and number plate lights on with them, but where are the parking lights on these? Are they dimmed LED's.

The reason I'm asking is that at some point I'd like to fit xenons. I would like to keeps DRL's, but not looking like I've just turned my headlights on, and I'm really not liking the new fairy lights. A mate have a 2008 Leon with Xenons, and he has the options (via VCDS) to have either dip beam or frong fogs on as DRL's. What options have you lot found that can be done with the Golf?

But then when I'm the only Golf around with fog light DRL's, I could look like a tw@ who's errrr, got his fogs on.

Here's an idea of what yours might look like......just pretend its a Golf

Those are set at 25% and then go to full brightness when I turn the fogs on   They turn off as soon as put side or dipped lights on

couple local guys running fogs as DRLs,

You might find that running fog lamps as DRLs is illegal in this country?

The EU Directive requires that the DRL function must be produced by functionally specific lamps meeting the requirements of ECE Regulation 87 and mounted to the vehicle in accord with ECE Regulation 48.[14] Functional piggybacking, such as operating the headlamps or front turn signals or fog lamps as DRLs, is not permitted.

Maybe, if running them at 55W and 12V, but I can think of many new cars that do, albeit at reduced output. Passat, Superb, Fabia VRS, spring to mind straight away.

A Golf with halogen headlights uses the main beam headlights with reduced output, so I guess the reduction in output overcomes ECE Regulation 87.

Didn;t the original Xenons have little LEDs tucked beneath/at foot of the 'inner Xenon silver plastic scoop bit?' I think the ones that Doc fitted were like this - but I don't have a picture to hand. I think this little LED was the DRL for these? Don't know about parking lights though.
sssh; it's 'only a diesel'; but i love it!

DRLs on the xenon are the dipped beam.

Would you consider the LED daytime lights in the fog lamp position ala skoda Fabia VRS?

Like i said before Craig, as no other Golfs have them, I'd look like the tw@ with his fogs on.
