Dont go for FK Highsports, they are just not set up right for a mk2 unless your giving it absolute death on smooth roads and there is NO ride quality, just crashiness and nodding dog syndrome. The springs are far too hard for a Mk2 and as said above, the damping is just too much and gets bloody dangerous IMO on bumpy roads. They once fired me up and into the apex of a corner over a bump leading to a broken wheel when it dropped into the ditch at the side of the road due to the mismatch of damping to spring rate to weight of car! The corrosion protection on the set I had was hopeless too, despite getting a bloody good spray of the wax they are sent with and following liberal applications of chain wax.

I have a set of SPAX RSX'S and they are lush - £500 after hunting a few discount codes. Fully adjustable dampening and height adjustment. The previous set I had on were from 1997 iirc and lasted until 2010 when one of the seals went

its funny that £500 can be thought of as a lot for car suspension. My comparison/reference point comes from my bike, due to the nasty nature of the mountain bike industry a set of suspension forks that used to be £500 5 years ago are now around £1000, and include no more R&D, and far less materials than a set of 4 coilovers!

When the shocks on my GTi give in, I will look forward to getting some lovely, reasonably priced, coilies!

Exactly, this is always my argument for not getting a mountain bike. I want one, or at least think I do but then look at the prices of parts and think 'fook me, I could pay half my insurance for the price of a new set of forks' or spend it on goodies like wheels, turbos, pipes blah blah blah

Bikes are a joke. Its like a car number plate, newer doesn't always mean better. From an engineering point of view, the old parts from the  likes of marzocchi, race face, middleburn, profile etc are still brilliant bits of kit. Go 2nd hand when building a bike, the old skool stuff can go quite cheap when looking in the right places. Compare the old bomber z1 bam's to todays newer made in china 'marzocchi' sh!te. I know what I'd rather. Fashion riders want shiney clean new bits. Hardcore recognise function over form. Same with cars I suppose. It doesn't always warrant the money spent if you don't use things 'properly' imo
