Tis purely utility motoring - these are all functional improvements.

If it passes its MOT in August it'll get further improvements.

No point having a cheap-as-chips sh*tter if one doesn't take pleasure from spanking it relentlessly.

I am punishing this Golf3 on behalf of all those out there who don't have the gumption to spank their Golf3s themselves.

It has another MOT - I went to re-tax it and found out the MOT ran out the day before - whoops!

Advisories - apparently the ARB bushes are worn, the front top mounts are worn, both rear wheel bearings 'play' (I'm guessing they're worn) and there is some corrosion to both sills.

So, a fair assessment would be 'it's a bit worn'.

Odo now reading 173400.  Last tank of fuel was drunk at 47.5MPG.  I should probably change the air filter to restore that 3MPG.  I did say if it went through an MOT I'd replace the thermostat, as it only comes up to 70deg C.  I should probably swap in my 280mm vented fronts as well and (nearly as importantly) swap the brake fluid to encourage it to stop.

If I was feeling really kindly I'd even change the oil, but I think it should do another few miles before that happens.

Well done shi*ter.

You can't be spanking it enough if you're returning that kind of mpg.

Don't worry about changing the oil, it will burn it off soon enough.

That's the thing - it doesn't burn much oil.  Don't worry I am being quite unkind enough to it and still it returns those MPG figures.  It's sickening.

Oh I assure you the brakes will not be wasted on it.

It also has the advantage of giving me a spare pair of hubs for the Syncro, in case wheel bearings go.

With those miles I must say I'm impressed!  :embarassed:

I know you will never be kind to it so I believe you. Well actually you are in a way as you haven't set fire to it yet. It's matching what the Mazda does when I drive it super nicely!

A rolling donor.
