not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes.
I've been offered a D reg mk2 16v 2 door from a friends dad, it was taken as payment for work he carried out (he's a mechanic). It has 147k (new engine 30k ago), slight rust along 3 of the 4 wheel arches. Rest of the body looks pretty rust free but one thing i was concerned about was that the panel gap between the bootlid and rear panel is big enough to stick my finger in. Boot seal looks ok, but it's missed the original sticker on the inside so i'm wondering if it's been rear ended at some point.
Other major down is that it has no service history! He wants £1000 for it with an MOT.
If in my position what would you guys do?
Lift the carpet and check the original seams on the bottom and under the spare tyre...
The tailgate gap on MK2's can seem big when compared to modern cars and Most tailgate's seem to have been replaced as some point (as it's the only panel that really rots more than others) so the missing sticker does not come as a big surprise & they were obsolete for a few years, think they are back as a classic part now...
A Grand seems too much money for me - BUT it would depend on the condition of the Interior, Engine, Panels & everything else TBH...
I Just bought a MK2 Run Out 8V Model for the missus for that money and it has the more desirable (To Me Anyway) Big Bumpers & small side trim...
FYI Valvers maybe more fun & more powerful BUT they do seem to be more problematic, but if set up PROPERLY are good to go...
