Mk3 cabriolet running problem
« on: 02 May 2005, 18:28 »
Hi All, Just bought a Mk3 golf cabby and I've got a few problems with the old girl.

When I bought her she had the wiper relay missing and she wasn't running very well

She starts up first time every time but when you try and accelerate she just sits there and takes her time (very slow) some times she coughs and splutters abit and I've got to drop the clutch and give her about 5 grand on the revs and then she clears herself and off she goes all beit a bit sluggish.

What I'm wandering is - is there a relay missing from the fuse box !!!!
are the injectors clogged up, I've just put some injector cleaner in the tank.

Maybe some body has some other ideas that might help

Thanks in advance

would recommend changing the one numbered 30 and the one numbered 167, these are your ecu and fuel pump relays. they are a common fault on mk3's. they are about 30 quid all in from vag and the part numbers are on them,

hope this helps,

Dave

Cheers Dave, took all the relays out and cleaned the contacts they all seemed o.k, just starting too think that maybe it's the CAT or the injecters that are playing up  :embarassed:

when the above relays are working they get slightly warm all around plastic area. if there is a fault they will be cold all over or cold on one side. drive the car for fifteen minutes and then check :undecided:
