Valve Guide Replacement
« on: 16 October 2011, 19:04 »
I own a 2.0 Golf Mk3 16v ABF. Recently started an engine rebuild and when i removed the valves (with some difficulty), bits of the valve guides were scraped off in the process.

Is it possible and relatively easy to replace these?

Cheers.

You need a machine shop to press them into the head.

That will not work with replacing the guides

Ha ha true i didn't read the op properly i thought it was just valves themselves but still if your gunna do the valves will need one

Machine shops usually charge around £15/guide.

Wow, 15 quid per valve is expensive, especially since i have 16!

Think it needs done? I was hoping it would be cheaper. I think it was some of the valve guides that was stripped by the collet grooves in the valve.

But not all valves may need doing. I did exhaust valves only as they are usually the worst ones. Or you could join CGTI (paid member) and go for a shed head at a good price. Thats with a port and polish too.
