Only you can decide some love DSG and some prefer manual. Try both and see what you prefer.

I have had both, definately manual for me, a little uninvolving using a DSG. A good novelty to start with, but then becomes abit boring.

I would say it depends on your driving style and how you will be using the car....  :nerd:

GTD - DSG
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Maybe this will help with your decision.

Manual R vs DSG GTI

'The 2012 Golf R is the most powerful Golf ever built with a 256 horsepower turbo-charged engine and all-wheel-drive it should cream the 2012 front-wheel-drive Golf GTI (which puts out only 200 horsepower) in a straight-line drag race. So what do you think happens when we pit the two Golf's against each other in this impromptu drag race?'

firstly i would ignore that as it has no relevance to your choice.

secondly this is done over in the states where they have crappy fuel

thirdly the R engine is required to be run on 99ron fuel where as the gti is happy on 95ron

fourthly the climate is such in the states that the AWD of the R rarely makes much sense

overall.... if you think you can justify the DSG due to simply drag races and overtaking moves then its the choice for you. I would like a said previously have a look at how and what type of driving you want the gti for, this will make your choice of manual v dsg much easier.  :nerd:

I prefer a manual myself, I like to know where the gears are up to, I dont really have anything against a DSG, but would say, if you`re planning on keeping past the warranty, that a DSG is much more expensive to repair/replace....

GTI - Manual
GTD - DSG

I'd agree.
Suits the diesel well...but I found it frustrating as hell on the GTI. I hated it. In fact, I took the demonstrator back early, it frustrated me that much.

If 'manual' actually meant 'manual' I might of liked it a bit more.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.
