Funny thing happened last night. I went out to the car at around 6pm, unlocked the car and expected the lights to come on, but they didn't..........

Yeah its weird. I've had that as well. Its as if its 2 different sensors. One saying its not dark enough to put the lights on when you unlock the car but the other saying its to dark to drive without your lights not on!!

Not unless its the same same sensor but the driving part has a lower % threshold to come on compared to the unlocking the doors one.

Here's an even stranger one. I was driving in bright sunlight late one afternoon, albeit with the sun very low in the sky behind me and my headlights came on. Now I know according to Police roadcraft and advanced driving techniques that this is good practice, so thought no more about it. However, a bit futher down the road, with the direct sun nowhere to be seen and the road shaded by trees, the lights turned off.

Now, is the light sensor for the dimming mirror comparing notes with the forward facing sensor in the windscreen and between them they are deciding that I should adopt advanced driver headlight opperation?

Just took my car to the dealers where i had it seviced last week, showed him the screen shot of how to make the light stay on like the mark5 golf. I had to get the instruction book out to show him to flash the lights to get the comming home function to work, he then proceeded to take my instruction manual through to the technicians.

I am astounded that no one in a main dealer new how it all worked. And put this to work how i want it is a recoding job, they want to charge me £55 to set it up, unbelievable.

Dont you just love the main dealer network.

I wonder how many know how to put the wipers into the service position? I've seen a fair few with either marks on the wiper arms or bonnets from the arms being forced up to change the blades.

Do tell, as I have yet to read the manual.

Having thought about it, I think I prefer having the option of turning my lights on to light the path to my front door myself.

The fact that they come on when I unlock the car is good, as I would want them on for me to drive off anyway, but sometimes, I may want my arrival to be a little more discreet.
