Calibra yellows and 3" maf - slightly rough running
« on: 25 September 2011, 19:10 »
Car is a r-tech stage 2 custom mapped car AGU with everything upgraded.

Put a set of calibra yellows in other day and a 3" maf to unleash a bit more power prior to map tweaks.

All good, just a tiny bit hunting idle and we only talking a few rpm's but seems more noticable from the exhaust at the back.

Boosts to 20-21psi peak and occasionally holds the boost at 20psi for a few hundred rpm then holds well throughout the rev range, sometimes at 13-14psi at redline from a quick glance at the guage.

HOWEVER...... there is a occasional/pretty often misfire at about 3250-3750rpm where the engine kind of splutters, not as if the wastegate is being pushed open, just what seems like a ignition issue, just like what it was doing on the denso ik22's but a bit less harsh. That is when the boost is at 20psi.  Anywhere after 4000rpm and theres no misfires.

Was told it smells a bit rich, which is understandable, especially when booting it down the road.

Also feels like the power is a lot more at the top end of the rev range now.

Havent had any chance to do some logging, but inform me what blocks I need and will happily supply them.

Have you used your old maf sensor in the 2.75" id housing? or just used the sensor that came with it?

Got the old 20v AGU maf sensor in there.

Do a run or two with the rail pressure static at 3bar with the vac line to the fpr disconnected to see if it cleans up the 3250-3750rpm hickup. If it cleans it up then its the part load map which we increased on thr last map session causing a rich missfire.

What happens when you inrease the power linear on the throttle, instead of going to wot straight away?

If its NOT wide open throttle straight away, its fine, after 4000rpm, WOT is perfectly fine and pulls pretty hard to redline (near enough)

Will get a run done with the FPR disconnected and see what it does.

Any blocks in vagcom that will assist?

tested with no FPR vacuum today.  Misfires like anything even on partial throttle, so disconnecting that definately made it a lot worse what with it connected.

Does sound decent though.....sounds like it has anti lag and is cammed to death on idle, especially cold start :)

Excellent stuff, I have mine on the way and also a refurb kit for them so will get cracking. My mate found a 3" MAF housing without a sensor that he's just given to me so happy days

Nice, managed to get mine stuck into the original k03s turbo intake pipe.  Needed to grind the maf down a bit to make it thinner, but it fits.

It sounds like its not liking the 16x16 Lambda at part load map, which was custom set to your last setup, in the past the yellow/3" setup worked well out the tin.

Just needs custom mapping to the yellows imo.

Spot on!  Bound to be out at somewhere as injectors are quite a bit bigger.

I'll get some cash built up and get her booked back in for tweaks :).  Anything else you recommend fro current setup? Or not really worth it for gains?
