difference between 8v and 16v box?
« on: 22 September 2011, 18:14 »
the synchro has gone between 3rd and 4th so i'm looking to get a recon box...

i spoke to a guy who sells recon units and apparently cause mine has 28 splines for the clutch that means it's a 16 box, is that correct? if so would it make my car more aggressively geared? because i swear the ratios make it much quicker than it should be, it really does fly :P

Yes 16v was a bigger shaft from memory, not sure how many splines

You may also find yours has a TD box maybe.

Somewhere...and at this moment I can't remember where I saw it, there is a list of all VW gearbox ratios.
