There's no black and white answer to that one citizen Kane.
Do you have a part ex?
Are you going to lease, pcp or generally finance? Or plain old cash?
Drop evo1986 a PM, he works for a busy VW dealership and would work out a deal for you as it's £££ in his back pocket and he's a very helpful chap. As I just mentioned though, it's a busy dealership that do a lot of fleet sales so you may not get a quick build slot unless he can pinch one from another dealer in his group that doesn't do big business in GTIs.
Check out drivethedeal and broadspeed to see what brokers can get you off a car if you aren't part-ex'ing. Again, these will be dealers who do a lot of fleet sales so build dates could be your enemy.
I've been nosing around at GTIs over the last couple of months as I want a car with xenons. I don't want a new car as I don't use it much and it would take forever to run it in, so I've been looking at sub 1 year old models with xenons.
Talking to salesmen here and there I've found that they will offer discounts off new builds but then will be less flexible in part ex prices (which is common sense at the end of the day as there's only so much money in a deal for them).
Very often the best deals are in ex-demo models that are approaching 6 months old and are due to be replaced with another demo so they need the metal shifted. So if you can wait around 6-9 months and don't mind one with a few miles on the clock I reckon you'll see a few demo ED35s popping up towards the end of the year.
