squeeky wipers - help!
« on: 19 September 2011, 13:51 »
Hey lads,
Wondering has anyone any tips on stopping wipers from squeeking, it's driving me nuts! The car (and the attached wiper blades  ) is only a few months old, so the blades surely don't need replacing yet. I tried wiping the screen and the blades with vinegar but it didn't make any difference.

I think the problem is that the screen has some wax on it from the factory that was never removed properly or something.

Any useful tips appreciated!

Autoglym fast glass / glass polish works for me usually.

At the other end of the scale, your wipers might be slightly on the piss and just need twisting slightly.

Cheers, I'll try that... although some of those glass polishes recommend not applying to the windscreen for this very reason right?

It did occur to me that maybe the arms themselves need adjusting, as they seem to judder a bit too on the downward sweep.

Correct. However, Autoglym do make a point of saying that their product does not contain any extra ingredients like waxes or silicones. I generally polish it first to make use of the cutting properties then use the fast glass over the top as it's a bit like acetone and strips the reminants off.

Try wiping them with IPA (iso propyl alcohol if I remember I correctly )

The squeaking is probably some contamination on the blades or screen

interesting - someone I know with a GTD has the same issue with the back (even after fitting brand new blades).
Not seen this on mine yet, will be interesting to see suggestions

I'm going to stick my neck out and say I've been using Rain-X both for the windscreen and the washer additive. I do not have any issues with squeaking or judder.

I never hear a squeak, I use Megs NXT class cleaner.

Well I changed the blades and cleaned the screen. I even clay barred it! The squeaking has reduced but it still does it a little bit.
I'm leaving it into the dealers tomorrow anyway to investigate wind noise from the driver's door, so I'll ask them to look at the wipers while they're at it.
