I just pulled the trigger and ordered the AWE-Tuning K04 Turbo kit and S3 FMIC, AWE TOP and AWE vent mounted boost gauge.  Has any one had any dealings with Regal Autoworks  I am looking to get the GIAC tune on my car from them.   I hope to have everything installed and start going to meets/shows and track days by Mid October. Thanks

Don't you worry that the engine may be damaged by upgrading this way? The R has 270PS but uses the older EA888 engine, I would have thought if the newer engine could have safely handled the extra power without uprated components that VW would use it in the R. Even the ED35 uses the older engine at just 235PS.
2012 R. Rising Blue 3 door DSG with 19" Talladega's, RNS510, Dynaudio, Cruise, DCC, Rear Cam, Colour MFD, Lux pack, Storage pack, Service plan.

I have the techinical documents on the EA888 engine design.
The reason they used the older unit in the R and Ed35 is simply cost. Design/homologation/type approval are very time/R&D man hour intensive and expensive financially, for such small production numbers of cars that would be sold in the life span of the mk6. They had a ready solution on the shelf they could use so used it, the older engine was the logical choice.

The Mk7 will be using a modified verson of the EA888 engine as the older engine will not meet new EU targets.

The modified EA888 engine to be used in the Mk7, will develop 220 bhp and has a modified valve lift system which is developed by Audi and also has other detailed tweaks.

The clock is ticking for a decision because the EA113 engine that powers the R and Ed35 cars is due to be phased out in 2014, ahead of new EU6 emissions regulations.

Sources say that the EA113 won't be re-engineered to pass EU6 regulations and instead it will be replaced by a high-output version of the current EA888 Golf GTI engine.

220 horses? really? I havent seen that anywhere.  Even more reason not to waste money on an ED35

Actually from homo/TA point of view that doesnt make sense... You have to spend more time/manpower to introduce a different engine to all Golf mk6 documents - a lot of work! And for the R and ED35 they had to do new emission/fuel con tests regardless of which engine they used. EA113 with 199kW could have been treated as a variant of 155kW while EA888 was a new type for mk6. Welcome to the twisted world of homologation:)

I bet what happend was powertrain people said - let's stick the EA888 somewhere now as it wont meet EU6 and we'll have to can it in a couple of years. It's a proven engine, will make 199kW so it makes perfect sense. Let's just sell as many as we can.
Besides why push EA113 now if you can keep that for mk7? (160 - 170 kW?)

I do not really worry a lot about this.  I have been on GolfMk6.com since before I bought the car and there are several guys that run a more aggressive set up and have no issues.  My only real concern is daily drivability so I try not to go to much over the top in this build.
