Headlight Adjuster Part?
« on: 02 September 2011, 13:52 »
Does anyone know the part number or have a link to the 2 white plastic fixings that adjust the headlight aim. The screw parts are fine on mine but after a bump the mounting parts have broke.

Also what can I use to reseal the glass?

Cheers guys

I'm not sure which parts you mean re the headlamp adjusters, think they may not be available as separate parts although someone here will no doubt have some .

I always use this stuff to reseal headlights but bear in mind it is messy :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WINDSCREEN-GLASS-REPLACEMENT-BONDING-ADHESIVE-GLUE-/370443777435?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item56402b759b

I am interested in this thread as my MK3 came with the MK4 lamps and they aim way to high, I get flashed by so many drivers of a night time yet do not have a clue how to adjust the aim/height.

the headlights should be checked as part of the MOT.  For the "mk4 style" mk3 ones, if you have a GTI (with the adjuster motor wiring) you can get the adjuster motors for them.  From memory ~£60 each from VW, so not cheap.

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

Godzilla. On the back of each unit at the top (if memory serves) there is usually a white (sometimes black) plastic knob on either side. You'll probably find that the outer one's are a pig to get to but if you look from the front of the car,in line with each knob you can adjust them by using a thin long screwdriver through a gap into the little slots on the back of each knob.Turn each a bit at a time one way or the other to bring them up or down and in and out.

None of the etka programs list the adjusters as seperate parts IIRC. Best bet is to get another pair from scrappy. I've found that taking the inner beam reflector in and out tends to snap the plastic as opposed to changing the beam angle slightly.
