I just can't enthuse when I see those wheels.

I think they look lots better on the non ED35 GTI without the bloated bumper and skirt lips which make them look small on the ED
It won't be long until ebay is full of replicas of them...

Thats really odd, for me the ED35 is just a parts bin wash out to be honest. The UK ones get nothing special for the ED35, I mean blue motion front bumper, R rear lamps, mirrors and skirts, ED30 gearknob, and regular GTi all black leather!

At least the ED30 was a bit more 'special'.

And looking at that seeing you may be able to get the 18" wheels for a regular GTi from factory, what is the point?

I understand times are hard, and GTi sales in the UK are few, but they must do better with the mk7 for me.

The Astra looks ok, and the build quality on the Insignias we have at work is quite good, so I'm looking forward to test driving the Astra, and saving  few quid this time round.

I'm wondering if the dealership had an ED35 in with standard wheels and a GTI in with Glendales and swapped them over (possibly at a customers request)?

All runout GTI's got very little extra in the past with the exception of the ed30 but apart from the seat material you could say that too was a parts bin special but the runout models are always the collectable sort after ones in the future. I wait and see if its the edition30 or the much rarer pirelli that becomes collectable if any.
I actually quite like the 18" edition35 wheels but don't like the chav corsa special black 19s but thats just a personal opinion.

Singularly revolting wheels, a cheap looking and ugly gear knob, a double chin and some child bearing hips. What's not to like and admire?
