Bled the clutch....no joy
« on: 01 September 2011, 14:08 »
So ive replaced a worn pipe and topped up my fluid. Now need to get the air out the system, is there a simple way to do this on my driveway? Watched a few methods on Youtube  :undecided:

Easiest way is a two man job,
Thats not a problem. Do you bleed it same as the brake? Get someone to pump the pedal or hold down the pedal while the bleed valve is open??

Exactly like bleeding brakes, hold down, open nipple, then close nipple and pump again, dead simple

Ok so ive just gave that a try. There was lots of air in the pipes but now my pedal has gone even lower, its practically on the floor!! Does this sound like the master or slave cylinder has packed up??

They can be a pain to do, you will need to persist.

Close the nipple, pump the pedal 10x, release the nipple and operate the clutch pedal by hand if necessary about 10x. On the last one down, close the nipple. Pump it again and see if it comes up. Keep your brake fluid topped up well and repeat this about 3 times. It can take some time though.

You are a bit  but it is quite possible. A pressure bleeder will alleviate all the faffing though and will be faster so if you have access to one definately try it.

This is what you mean.Does brakes and clutch. Some cars you just cannot do without this little gem

Another thing you might try if you have someone to help is to have one person on the pedal and the other on the nipple.Pump the pedal continuously with the nipple wide open (or removed),enough for air/fluid to pump through.Pump like mad and keep fluid topped up.Every 50 pumps or so do the nipple back up,pump it 20 times or so and retighten (repeat until you get pressure on pedal).

I had a similar problem on a Kawasaki ZXR 600 some time back (twin 4 pots).Had rebuilt calipers and refitted but every time i tried to bleed i ended up getting only 90% of the way, always felt spongy.I took both bleed nipples right out, filled master cylinder and pulled lever as fast as i could, keeping fluid topped up.Eventually fluid started spitting from where the nipples were so i put them back in and continued the normal way.Job done in a couple of minutes !.
