Help for a new Gti owner!!!

Hi all,

With my MOT looming I could do with some advice on some things! I have recently purchased my first car MK2 gti 8v and i'm so chuffed with it. Not as fast as my motorbike but a dam sight warmer!!!

1. Rear suspension is a bit bouncey. ok to drive but i'm worried about the mot. Are the rear shocks expensive to replace? standard will do fine.

2. Think i have a wheel bearing which needs replacing, again, are they expensive?

Any advice would be greart!

rear shocks are cheap as, u can get a set of 2 off ebay brand new for 39.99 i think but i have a nearly new set in my garage lol takes about 30 - 45mins to change both

wheel bearings are cheap aswell,

nothing to worry about, just make sure the mechanic doesnt take u for a ride

Try www.eurocarparts.co.uk or www.gsfcarparts.com for an idea of prices, ebay can be a bit expensive if you don't know the true cost of an item, very easy to get ripped off on ebay. It can, however, be a really good place to buy genuine VW items from genuine sellers. I tend to keep an eye on ebay but generally buy my parts from either of the aforementioned companies. Don't know where you live but they tend to have branches in most areas and do mail order. Sellers, 39.99 seems a bit expensive for a set of rear shocks, Eurocarparts do them for £11.99 each plus vat.

a rear wheel bearing will set you back £6 from GSF. I paid a mate in the garage next door £15 to do the work.

I paid £40 to have the 2 rear springs changed. The shocks came off completely to do that so should be the same amount of work. I think shock are less than £20 each for standard ones.
