Least you've got the option of the train. We've got a railway that was closed down many years ago. It's still all there and fully functional as it is occasionally used for freight/pleasure (steam) runs. And yet the government seems to think we all surely must want to be hurled towards London at light speed rather than merely commute (relatively) cleanly and quickly to our own local cities to work.

Agreed, for me to travel to london by train from pontefract was a 4 hour 40 minute trip, due to the shocking way the local lines link up .....or dont as the case may be!

Just read in the Standard (it's free and i like doing their Sudoku puzzles) that the train companies were capped in raising their prices by the Retail Price Index rate in July + 1%. Tories have increased it to Retail Price Index + 3% and the government will pocket the extra 2 percent. So it won't actually go towards improving trains at all. It'll just go towards the treasuries coffers.

Another stealth tax from the tories. Geez.

Proud to say I didn't vote for them. Bunch of c@nts.

You do realise that government subsidize 50% ish of the railways don't you? If it was all paid ofr on ticket prices your train tickets would cost nearly twice as much.

I still think it's a rip off though. I used to travel a lot in Europe and places like france have an awesome and cheap rail system.

Yup, but the Tories are doing exactly what everyone has said they will do, which is screw the general public over even more. If the money was going towards improving the rail system it would be fair. But it's not. I'm glad I don't rely on the trains.

I would much prefer to drive to work. Did it for 4 years before moving to London and loved it. No need to put up with sweaty arm pits and strangers rubbing up against you. The last part might be a benefit, it depends on who's doing the rubbing.

What pissed me off the most is my journey is only 12 miles, but takes me the best part of 1Hr45m each way to do it. 3 hours of my life I have to spend sitting on a sh!tty train crammed in like sardines. Then to only have to pay MORE for the same sh!tty privilege?

It's 12 miles.

Get off your fat ass and do it quicker on a bike, save money and improve your fitness too.

What's not to like?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Privatisation of the railways was always going to be a disaster.
This is simply because if you run all services, not just popular ones, you'll lose a fortune.
