Huge hole in air box?
« on: 14 August 2011, 18:21 »

hi guys,

i've had holes drilled in my air box for a few years now with a K&N panel filter fitted, but was at a mates house today talking about drilled air boxes and he said he had a air box from a 8v with a hole cut out of it that i could have...

when he showed me it i thought... o sh!t... will that be ok on my car?

sorry about the blur'd photo

is this hole to big?and will it just suck to much air in?

cheers

If you have an 8v, yes.
Hole might pull in hot air from strut tower area though :undecided:

Going to do me a new airbox soon, was going to try something a little different this time :lipsrsealed:

There is a big write up on this exact modification on Google.  I would say it is fine if you put a good direct feed to it.  On my VR6 I removed my fog light and took my direct air feed from there.......Will put pics up tomorrow.  Induction noise will be better and many have found that modding the airbox gives more power than an induction kit as the induction kit is exposed to heat soak.

i've just won a airbox on ebay and going to try and connect cold air feed from bumper vent, which pipe will be best for this? will it have to be heat proof?

cheers

Remove the drivers side fog light......Easy job.  From there you can house your direct feed. I dont have my camera on me but will have tomorrow so will take a few pics of how I have done it with a step by step guide for you

Wouldnt bother with removing the fog. Run the cold air feed to the lower bumper grille. Perfectly good there without sacrificing a fog light.

Having tried various routes and options for the cold air feed I'd say either opt for the lower bumper  vent but run the risk of hydrolocking in the winter or as I'm now running,  utilising the original wing opening minus all the plastic gubbins and restrictive airbox intake  pipe with a 3" duct pipe in its place.
