Painted calipers losing their shine.
« on: 02 August 2011, 11:37 »
I've noticed recently that my front calipers are starting to look a bit dull, the rears are like new, i only use bilberry wheel cleaner now and again so doubt it's that causing it and as i say the rears are fine.
When i rub them with a rag or microfibre the colour transfers to it?? I'm going to take the wheels off for the first time since getting the car so i can give them the treatment they deserve but is there anything i can do to my calipers? I suppose it'll have to be something that can cope with the heat?

Cheers chaps.

hammerite is fine tbh.. you can go VHT paint and lacquer which will be much better but they all lose their shine after a while.. it doesnt help on the front the amount of heat in the calipers due to breaking which the back dont have..

I thought it would be the heat tbh, i was kind of hoping to bring back the shine and protect it really rather than paint them, the cars only got 5500 miles on it!

are they bare metal? could you shine them back up then clear laqueur? just a thought.

i have used hammerite in the past - excellent except it takes AGES to dry.

Halfrauds do a cheap and cheerful quick dry caliper paint but it doesnt stay vibrant for that long :undecided:

Sorry mate they all go that way after a while unless done properly.. could always ask dealers to sort it but they 'may' laugh.. just wack some hammerite on them  unless they brembo type calipers then VHT paint

Not bare metal mate they're painted red from the factory.

Ah ok mate thanks, that sucks a bit though, you'd think they would use a paint that can take the extra heat?? Might try and buff them up a bit and put a couple of coats of Jetseal on to see if it helps at all.
Thanks for the comments though, much appreciated.
